On June 6, 2024, at a seminar organized by Solène Poyraz (EHESS – IFEA) and Julie Alev Dilmaç (Galatasaray University / TAM / Four Generations Rights Association) at IFEA, Seçil Doğuç (Galatasaray University and Four Generations Rights Association) gave a presentation in French titled « La prison : une maison des morts ? » (Is the prison a house of the dead?).

The seminar, whose title was inspired by Fyodor Dostoyevsky's "Souvenirs de la maison des morts " ( Memories of the House of the Dead ), a work based on his experience in a Siberian penal colony, explored the daily lives of prisoners in today's high-security prisons and how they cope with severe institutional restrictions. Seçil Doğuç shared findings from her qualitative field research conducted with judicial prisoners held under a high-security regime in Turkey. The presentation addressed how spatial and temporal restrictions, intense surveillance, and relationships with prison staff shape the prisoners' experiences.
